Kiendler Oil Mill
Ten generations of Styrian oil pressing in Ragnitz — research partner of the Austria Imperial Green Gold association for the field study on AI-driven marketing of regional specialties.
Why Kiendler
A documented family business — not a marketing concept
For a scientific field study on AI-driven marketing we don't need just any product, but an authentic, regionally rooted one. The Kiendler Oil Mill meets both: 300+ years of documented family history and official certification as a Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil PGI producer under EU Regulation 1151/2012.
As an association, we research how AI models can carry this tradition into 40+ languages and cultures without distorting it. Kiendler provides the product and craft tradition — we document reach, translation quality, and marketing performance openly in our study.
Timeline
From 1696 to the tenth generation
The first documented mention of the Ragnitz mill dates back to 1696. What began as a regional oil mill became a family business over the centuries, now run by the tenth generation — entirely family-owned, without external investors.
The Kiendlers have continuously modernized the craft without industrializing it: modern stainless-steel presses, but still cold-pressing from roasted press cake. The result is an oil awarded both by Gault&Millau and the EU PGI seal.

Craft documented
From oil pumpkin to bottled oil
Eight steps from seed to fully labelled bottle — documented from the official spec sheet of the Kiendler Oil Mill.

Raw material
Dried and pre-cleaned Styrian hull-less pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita pepo var. styriaca) — delivered directly from farms in Ragnitz. Only from the protected PGI area of Styria and adjacent parts of Lower Austria.

Cleaning & storage
After strict origin and quality inspection, seeds are re-cleaned and kept in cooled storage until processing.

Pre-roasting
Seeds are conveyed into the pressing room and gently warmed in a first roasting pan to release part of the aroma before the main roast.

Grinding
The warmed seeds are ground and blended with naturally energised Grander water and salt — a Kiendler signature step.

Roasting
In the second roasting pan the full aroma develops. Roasting duration and temperature remain the family's well-guarded trade secret.

Pressing
Only once the aroma is fully developed — like with coffee — does the ground mass enter the hydraulic ram press, under up to 300 bar of pressure.

Resting
The freshly pressed, still-warm oil rests in tanks for several days, letting suspended particles settle out naturally. No filters, no chemicals.
Bottling
Filled fresh, labelled, finished with the Premium gold seal and a numbered banderole around the neck — so every bottle stays traceable back to the field.
EU certification
Styrian Pumpkin Seed Oil PGI
Kiendler is among roughly 40 certified oil mills permitted to carry the Protected Geographical Indication. Every bottle receives a numbered banderole for complete traceability — from field to shelf.
Research partnership
What this collaboration means
Austria Imperial Green Gold is a registered research association (ZVR 1260271080) — not a trading company. Kiendler remains an independent family business. Our partnership is focused on the study project: AI-driven marketing of an existing premium product.
As part of the field study, we document how automated translation, A/B-tested mascots, and multi-channel publishing affect the visibility of authentic regional products. Every shop order feeds into the research methodology — profit shares go to Kiendler and to the association's purpose, not to members.
